The Alpha Lambda Alumni Association has made an important strategic change in fund raising support for the chapter! Since the launch of the capital campaign in 2000 to renovate the Teke chapter house, we have followed a traditional capital funding raising strategy: raise pledges, build donor base, collect pledge payments, usually over four years, and approach existing donor base to renew pledges, repeat cycle. Since 2000, three hundred thirty members of the Alpha Lambda community have collectively pledged $1.1 million making possible $1.8 million in hard cost renovations to the Teke chapter house. Although this traditional capital fund raising strategy has been successful, it no longer addresses the broad, ongoing needs of the Alpha Lambda chapter. For instance, we need to service, and retire the outstanding debt incurred with the first two phases of the renovation, and complete the unfinished third phase (basement). In 2005 the Alpha Lambda Alumni Association launched the TEKE Scholarship Program to recognize, reward and promote excellence among Teke undergraduates. In addition, we are just beginning to study an initiative to formalize a leadership/mentoring program pairing Alpha Lambda undergraduate leaders with Alpha Lambda alumni in conjunction with Leadership Studies and Programs at Kansas State. In order to ensure a stable and predicable cash flow to help the Alpha Lambda chapter meets its operational, scholarship and program needs, the Alpha Lambda Alumni Association intends to transition from a traditional capital fund raising strategy into an annual fund raising strategy, the ALPHA LAMBDA ANNUAL FUND, beginning in 2007. The initial goals of the annual fund are: cover the minimum amount of annual debt service needed from the Alpha Lambda community ($72,000), extra principal reductions on debt of $60,000 to $80,000/year and to fund a portion (up to $10,000)/year of the TEKE Scholarship Program. How does the ALPHA LAMBDA ANNUAL FUND work? If financial support of Alpha Lambda is part of your annual charitable giving strategy, simply select the total dollar amount you are comfortable giving to Alpha Lambda each year. We will work with you to develop payment designations and terms that meet your needs. The amount and terms of your annual financial commitment will be summarized in an ALPHA LAMBDA ANNUAL FUND Commitment Certificate (sample attached). The Alpha Lambda chapter is proud to be a premier Teke chapter nationwide and to be among the top fraternities at Kansas State. In 2007 the International Fraternity recognized Alpha Lambda as a Top Teke chapter for the 17th consecutive year, extending its own national record. Please know however the strength of the Alpha Lambda chapter is directly related to the strength of its alumni support! I would appreciate the opportunity to contact you by phone to further explain the ALPHA LAMBDA ANNUAL FUND and invite you to be among the first group of alums to participate in this important new fund raising initiative. Thanks in advance for your consideration and support of Alpha Lambda! Yours In The Bond,
